Community Engagement: Creative Writing
WRITTEN EDITORIAL CONTRIBUTOR
while living abroad i sharpened my creative writing skills as a contributor for stars and stripes, the dod’s global military newspaper. my aim was to empower fellow members of the military community stationed overseas to maximize their time abroad by sharing personal, useful articles highlighting italian destinations, experiences and culinary culture.
the pieces i’m the most proud of are the wine-related articles, in particular the winery profiles & interviews. they embody my efforts to immerse myself in italian viticulture, and are an attempt to democratize what i learned through the wset program.
I quickly became the European branch’s go-to for all-things venice, friuli-venezia giulia and wine. over the course of the 14 months i worked with stripes, they published 12 of my pieces to the website and commissioned me to write three articles that were printed in a special edition magazine for individuals moving to italy.
